Introducing Tennis Hot Shots Matchplay to Dunedin

  • This is the NZ and ITF endorsed success based match play format for players in Hot Shots programmes.

  • Catering for children aged 7-12 in red, orange and green stages of the programme.

  • Match play on smaller courts, with modified racquets, modified balls and modified scoring formats, designed specifically for kids to play and enjoy success in tennis from their first try. There is no coaching, this all about playing the game.

The focus is on fun while developing match play skills, with prizes and music each week.

Over the 4 weeks, the players will hit a lot of balls, and start to learn the rules and the etiquette of Tennis including handshakes, fair play, competing, simple scoring and winning and losing with resilience. The format has children playing singles while being part of a team competing together every session. Each event the teams will be made up to ensure lots of opportunity for a variety of matches and friendships to be made too.

$5 per Matchplay or $20 for all four going into a draw for a Hot Shots Prize pack

NOTE: $2.50 entry into Edgar Centre for each session. Separate to matchplay cost.

Experience will include:

  • Introduction of different match play formats specifically designed for a fun focus that supports lots of point play, learning to compete, different ways of scoring while being part of a team an as a individual player.

  • Learning tennis etiquette - shaking hands, keeping the score, learning to win and lose graciously.

  • Meeting new people - new teams are made for each session.

  • Working together - contributing to team score.

  • Building confidence - being rewarded for behaviours and conduct success.

  • Fun activities - Internationally endorsed development match play formats specifically designed for player success and enjoyment in the age group.
